trafficIf you are reading this blog post there is 40% chance (I include ow.ly visits) that you wound up here via a Twitter link. That’s an amazing fact when you consider that 8 months ago Twitter drove only 6.8% of traffic to this site. Part of this increase has to do with my Twitter followers growing, but the other aspect is the growth of Twitter and Twitter related sites.

If you are one of the people not following me on Twitter you can do so here.

While Google is still a major source of traffic it’s something I have little control over. No matter how much I tag, link and SEO my blog it is still a big crap shoot. On the other hand Twitter is something I can invest time in and see immediate results from. My investment has paid off and the numbers prove it. If you are serious about growing traffic to your blog you should be equally serious about creating a trusted community of followers on Twitter.

Special shout out to the guys over at Unique Blog Designs. They coded this blog for me and continue to promote me as a client. I am trying out their new affiliate theme for a side project. I will let you know how that works out on a later post.

I remember Shoemoney recently posting about how Twitter was a major source of traffic for him. Personally, Google still provides the majority of my traffic, but I’m a Twitter snob who doesn’t follow people back very much.

  • […] a potential traffic source. For Shoemoney, it’s his second biggest blog traffic source, and Ted Murphy get’s 40% of his blog traffic from Twitter. But those are blogs, not affiliates sites, so the question still remains: does twitter convert for […]

  • Good gravy, I love Twitter!! And this is just one more affirmation for WHY I should!!! 🙂

And I think you should install the plugin that lets people put their Twitter name in with their comment. (I think I should, too!)

About 45% of my traffic comes from twitter according to google analytics! 🙂

    Good deal 🙂

  • Well Twitter is becoming HUGE source of traffic these days for me as well. If this continues for long term i guess search engines will loose their importance ..lol

I always find it interesting to compare stats. Not for competition, but just curiousity. I get about 4% from Facebook and less than that from Twitter, but about %38 from google organic.

That kind of traffic increase from Twitter is impressive. Does this being a blog increase your opportunity for such an increase?

People hate spam as I do, even on twitter. Do you feel that one could promote an ecommerce site on Twitter and still gain that kind of a traffic increase?

I do promote NuttyIdea.net on Twitter via my mascot @Bucky_Diggs but have not seen that kind of an increase in traffic as you have. One thing I do not want to do is turn people off prior to earning their business . . . your thoughts?
